In Albany, shops are busiest on Monday mornings and before holiday weekends, so a mid-week appointment gets a car seen faster. Labor rates across New York vary by neighborhood and by shop type, from small independents to dealership service bays, and mobile mechanics now cover many routine jobs in the driveway. Before authorizing a repair, ask for the estimate in writing, whether the shop warranties parts and labor (12 months / 12,000 miles is common, some offer more), and whether it can provide a loaner or a shuttle. Check the listing for hours, the makes the shop works on and its Google rating, then call ahead, since walk-in capacity is limited at smaller shops.

Hours are published for 5 days a week. On most of those days it is open 8 am–5 pm. Note that it does not open on Saturday, Sunday. Hours in the United States do change around federal holidays and long weekends, so a quick call before a special trip is sensible. You can reach Lawton's Automotive & Tire Center at (518) 463-1965; calling is usually the quickest way to ask about availability, prices or directions.

Customers rate it 4.8 out of 5 on Google across 75 reviews, placing it among the better-regarded auto repair shops in Albany.

One time my windshield wipers didn't work, I called on a saturday and left a message asking their availability, they ended up calling me back a little later and told me they were just working on their own cars at the shop and to just come through real quick. All I needed was a little replacement piece that I plug into some panel, boom wipers fixed. Didn't charge me since it took 10 seconds and was a 50 cent piece. I had only been there a couple times before so I wasn't friends with them or anything, they just wanted to help out the kid who inherited his dad's old car and didn't fully know how it worked. Hopefully anyone reading this doesn't set off-hours quick fixes as an expectation, I just got lucky with the timing and living close by, but it still shows the kind of people they are. And if they're reading this, I'm sorry for parking my car facing the wrong direction on your one way street when my starter broke and I had to push my truck there. Thank you for not chewing me out. Going to miss having a mechanic I can trust when I move back to the west coast.

Lawton's is amazing! They are kind, honest, and know exactly what they're talking about. When our car had a manufacturer defect that was causing a recurring coolant leak several other mechanics charged us multiple times to fix the same issue while Lawton's was honest and actually told us about the defect. Definitely recommend!

George is such a nice guy and a great mechanic. He fixed my brakes and put on new tires within not even a full work day. I also stopped in on short notice after a minor accident to have him take a look and he took 20-30 minutes out of his day to look at and fix my car, without much notice. George has my business as long as I am in Albany !

This is a good crew. Quick to answer the phone and get the details. Smart, fast, friendly service, and they don’t rake you over the coals. My son’s car went there with a water pump issue and they identified and fixed it right away. Walked us through what they did when it was all done. Price was great too. If you’re looking for a friendly trustworthy place to go in the neighborhood, here’s where you should go. Highly recommend. Thanks, guys.
